Service to Carers
We
tend to recruit most of our carers by word of mouth and they are most often
from the 30 to 60 age group. Some of them have prior experience but
this is not essential.
We operate a strict policy of non-recruitment of local authority carers, that
is, we will not undertake an introductory visit where a prospective carer is
already a foster carer.
We provide support, for example:
- social work support over 24
hours, weekends and holidays;
- telephone call each week;
- respite by arrangement;
- monthly support group.
We provide supervision, for example:
- minimum monthly visit, more
frequently if necessary;
- in-depth practice guidance to
carers;
- procedural guidance;
- feedback;
- analysis of background
information;
- analysis of daily records.
We provide training, for example:
- preparation for fostering;
- specialist training in relation
to placement issues;
- relevant issues by visiting
professionals;
- special interests;
- literature made available;
- training and development
profiles maintained.
